Maps and OS6 – First Thoughts

Well… I finally received my iPhone 5 with the new iOS 6…

To my amazement… The apple maps application works for me in my area…
No streets going off to no-mans land… Or any other hiccups found by other people…
I did notice a faster acting gps with very little bandwidth taken to grab the map info of places I haven’t been yet… What a difference with google maps… And before you say no way with Satalite view… I was comparing all three modes… (normal, Satalite and combined)
Wow is all I can say… It had all the new streets google maps didn’t, and when it loaded it remembered the data… If it needed more info from the cloud it took only a fraction that google maps would need… Remember that’s my data minutes I’m paying for, the less any app needs in 3G or LTE the better on my pocket… Fly over mode is a new concept to get used to.. But it has a very small learning curve… Still miss street view… Never know how much I used it until it was not there…

Siri… Thought I wouldn’t use it ever… But in the car (with hands free now the norm) it is a needed concept… Now I can get the info I need and don’t have to look over my shoulder if there is a cop there or not… You know… When you Have to make That call…or check on the temp… Or even setup reminders… I don’t know about you but when I’m driving I think up a lot of stuff for my assistant to do next… And now she hates Siri

Other new features in iOS 6 I’m still checking out… More soon to come…
